Alex Ovechkin can’t hear the Madison Square Garden crowd

Remember when Bruce Boudreau talked about Madison Square Garden’s crowd last spring?

“Our building’s a lot louder,” the Caps former coach said. “So I mean, they can say what they want, but it’s not that loud in there.”

Then Rangers fans chanted “Can You Hear Us.” Then Caps fans chanted “We Are Louder.” And everyone had fun, and got page views, and we moved on.

A year later, here we are again. In Game 1, continuing a gimmick from the Senators series, Rangers fans chanted “Ovi Sucks” at the 8-minute mark of each period. In Game 2, Alex Ovechkin scored the winning goal and then pointed out to the Rangers fans that he could no longer hear their chants.

“The crowd pay their money and they like to yell,” Ovechkin said, via Katie. “They are fans and they support their team. I’m sure they will be yelling in Washington, too.”

Sure, sure. The gesture was better than the quote.
