Bill Murray at George Mason Towson game

Hey, it’s Bill Murray, talking to Doc Nix of the George Mason Green Machine. This is at least the second time Murray has been up-close with George Mason basketball, after his 2010 visit with the Patriots during a tournament in Charleston.

In both cases, Murray was there because of his son, rising assistant coach Luke. Luke is friends with former Mason assistant Chris Caputo, which explained his presence in South Carolina. Luke is now with Towson, which is why Murray showed up at the Patriot Center box office to pick up buy his general admission ticket on Saturday, according to Steve Goff.

After Mason officials saw Murray, they escorted him down to courtside seats, and 5,000 fans immediately began tweeting about their celebrity guest. Doc Nix — whose band Murray had conducted in Charleston — also came up to say hello. See the video below, in which Murray rocks out to the Green Machine. More video here.
