I mentioned this in May, but it’s again true in August: Bryce Harper is Major League Baseball’s fastest home-run trotter.
After Thursday night’s sprint around the basepaths in 16.2 seconds, Harper now owns the top two times from the 2012 season, according to the Tater Trot Tracker. No one else has broken 16.4 even once, and Harper has done it twice. Those would also be the two best times of the 2011 season, by an even bigger margin.
I’m not sure if Harper has ever talked about his home-run speed, but he did talk to Kristina Akra about his comfort level on Thursday night.
“Having Werth in front of me, I think, is really relaxing me and making me stay within myself and really try to drive the baseball, and just have some fun out there,” Harper said.
