“We’d have been okay if, on Bryce Harper’s first day off, if he was smiling about it,” F.P. Santangelo said early during MASN’s broadcast on Sunday. “He’s been playing so well, probably deserves a day. But the fact [is] that he was upset — and I’m talking, NOT HAPPY — as soon as he found out he wasn’t in the lineup. Went out in the field, ran some sprints in left field to take out the aggression.
“I like the fact that he wasn’t happy that he wasn’t in the lineup today. You get happy day-off guys, they bounce around the clubhouse, and you’re like really? But Bryce Harper today? I’ll just say it, he was upset he wasn’t in there.”
“Out in the field all by himself over by the Green Monster about two hours ago, doing some stretching, doing some running,” Bob Carpenter added.
“Doesn’t look very happy yet,” Santangelo said, as the camera again showed Harper’s face in the dugout. “How many guys wear eye black when they’re not playing? Not too many. He’s ready for action. He’s ready to go in the ballgame. It probably feels weird for him not to be in.”
I guess he needed the eye black in the ninth, anyhow.
