Budweiser: Watered-Down Trophies

Yes, that's right, Budweiser has been parading around a "replica" of the World Cup trophy to ardent fans who think it's the real thing. (As an aside, I held the actual MLS Supporters Shield in my hands yesterday afternoon, and I promise to blog about it at some point, after I return from this lunch meeting with my boss. I'm almost positive it wasn't a replica.)

Bud's Web site was promising "a unique and memorable opportunity to see the coveted trophy." Guess it doesn't sound quite as good to promise a unique and memorable opportunity to see "a replica of the coveted trophy." Then again, they make very popular beer out of rice, so who knows, maybe people would love to see a replica.

Also, this might be the wrong time to mention it, but the Caps are offering a pre-game bar crawl with $2 Bud products. We can only hope they'll bring a replica of the Stanley Cup. Incidentally, six hours of $2 Buds might be enough to make Caps fans think the team employs actual defensemen.
