Byrd Stadium turf field takes shape

I guess somewhere I knew that Byrd Stadium’s field would not remain a dirt hole with two large piles of gravel indefinitely, although man that would be an interesting way to play football.

And after Maryland released the designs for its new turf field, I guess I basically understood what the new turf field would look like.

Still, there’s a unique joy in seeing the field slowly take shape before our eyes, a bright green, non-growing, bulldozer-flattened, state-flag-accented homage to the future.

I know I’m stupid, but following the months-long progress of this field has made me more interested in the 2012 Maryland football season. Maybe I should have studied horticulture. Or whatever the field-turf version of horticulture is.
