Capitals introduce new hat trick promotion

(John McDonnell - THE WASHINGTON POST)
Above is the scene after Mathieu Perreault had his first career hat trick Tuesday night against the Bruins. That’s pretty typical. See hat trick, throw hat.

The subsequent announcement, though, was something new. Careful listeners — like longtime Bog reader Eric F. — heard the PA announcer tell fans that the Verizon Center team store would be offering 20 percent off all headgear after the game.

I checked with a team spokesman, who confirmed that Tuesday night was believed to be the first time the team made such an offer, but that it will become a regular thing in Verizon Center stores following a Caps hat trick.

So throw your hats with abandon, Caps fans. Replacements will be right around the corner.

Also, Adam Vingan took this shot of the hats on Perreault’s stall following his moment.
