If you wanted to get a crowd of 18,000 people wearing red-white-and-blue in the general proximity of the White House at 10 p.m. on a Sunday night, there wouldn’t be much better way than an overtime Caps playoff game against Tampa Bay.
And so it was that, as people gathered around their televisions and saw clips of the celebration, they also saw people in John Erskine and Michal Neuvirth jerseys. Strange times.
(Though, to be honest, having scanned hundreds of images, I saw more GW logos than anything else. Those kids mobilized fast.)
I don’t particularly associate hockey with issues of national security, but these images were striking enough that I’ve gathered a bunch. The first two are by Clyde Caplan; see more here. The next two are by Cheryl Nichols; see more here. The fifth one is by Rink Rebel; see more here. Others were gathered off the Internet.
