Maryland held a court-naming dedication ceremony for Gary Williams on Monday night, in advance of the public unveiling during Wednesday night’s Duke game. My invitation to Monday’s event was apparently lost in the mail, but luckily, ESPN’s Bonnie Bernstein tweeted several amazing highlights.
Like the above photo of Coach K, toasting Gary, for example.
And this quote from Roy Williams: “Wacko, you’re one of a kind.”
And this quote from Juan Dixon: “I love you, Coach. You made me the man I am.”
Bernstein reported that Williams choked up during the event, which isn’t surprising considering the wattage of speakers. See her timeline for more details.
