Crowd reacts as Michael Buffer reads Lamont Peterson decision

Since I don’t have HBO, I followed Saturday’s Lamont Peterson-Amir Khan fight online. That gave me some of the flavor. But not all of it.

Then I read this item from Dave McKenna Wednesday, about a Peterson interview on Mike Wise’s radio show:

Early in the interview, Wise, who wrote a column in the Washington Post calling Peterson’s win the “sports story of the year,” replayed Hall of Fame ring announcer Michael Buffer’s call of the score cards after the fight, ending with the crowd at the Convention Center drowning him out as they realize that Peterson, a hometown kid and huge underdog, was the new world champion.

So obviously, I wanted to hear that audio myself. The video is above. The decision comes around the :50 mark. There were enough Khan fans there that it wasn’t a pure roar of joy, but there were a lot of arms in the air.
