David Gregory defends Caps vs. Rick Santorum

In case you were thinking of supporting Rick Santorum’s Presidential bid, know this: the former Pennsylvania Senator thought it necessary to point out to Meet the Press host David Gregory that his Alex Ovechkin figurine, paired with a miniature Stanley Cup, was a misleading image, and that Santorum almost called Gregory out over this on-air.

Here’s Gregory’s explanation, in a post-show Web-only feature:

Senator Santorum called me out on something that you didn’t see on the air. But I feel like I just have to acknowledge that he could have been right, and it’s behind me here. I have the figure of Alex Ovechkin from the Capitals, and this miniature Stanley Cup, that’s part of our set. I describe this as aspirational, since the Caps have not won a Stanley Cup. He thinks that was totally misleading, calling me out, and nearly was gonna do it during the interview. I just want to acknowledge that he is right, there is a misleading aspect to this, but I’m sticking with it because it’s aspirational, that I hope one day he wins one of these.

Well, good work anyhow, Santorum. I’m sure you know have suburban Pittsburgh voters locked down.
