I noted earlier in the week that D.C. United was staging a Thursday evening takeover of Ben’s Chili Bowl, in which the U Street eatery would be named Ben Olsen’s Chili Bowl, fans in DCU gear would receive free half-smokes, and Dax McCarty and Charlie Davies would help pour cheese and chili over smoked meats.
Well, it happened.
If you look at the image above, you’ll note that Davies appears to be enthusiastically sampling the menu during what was presumably a break from his shift.
And if you watch the video below, you’ll note that of Olsen, McCarty and Davies, the latter seemed most comfortable moving quickly behind the counter. McCarty, meanwhile, appeared never to have experienced aluminum foil before.
There are many more images on D.C. United’s Flickr stream. Several hundred free half-smokes were served. And for the 19th time, the home opener is Saturday.
