Devin Thomas calls Redskins ‘Deadskins’

Barry Cofield used to be on the Giants. Devin Thomas used to be on the Redskins. Now Barry Cofield is on the Redskins, and Devin Thomas is on the Giants, and the two teams are scheduled to play in Week 1.

And both, as it turns out, have talked about their former teams this week. Here’s Cofield, to Barry Svrluga:

“It’s almost like a script,” he said. “I couldn’t be more excited. I know I have a lot of work to do, joining this new defense and this new scheme, a lot more to learn. But I’d be lying if I said I didn’t have that game circled, starred, highlighted – all of that.”

Excited, but non-inflammatory.

And here’s Devin Thomas, to the New York media:

“Until I make that [final roster] and they put me back there in the first game against them Deadskins, then I will say it’s my job,” Thomas said of the team that drafted him in the second round in 2008 before releasing him last season.

Although the New York Post heard it differently:

But Thomas, a former Redskin, tweaked his old team yesterday while saying he isn't taking the return job or even a roster spot for granted.

“Not until I'm lining up against them Deadskins [on opening day],” he said.

Either way, the “Deadskins” noun remains the same.
