Earl Weaver statue unveiled at Camden Yards

(Gail Burton - AP)
Quoting myself from late April, “The Orioles are doing a season-long event involving six of the finest players in team history, and many were stars when the Orioles were considered Washington’s team. (The players are Frank Robinson, Brooks Robinson, Earl Weaver, Jim Palmer, Eddie Murray and Cal. More info here.)

Statue number 2 was unveiled on Saturday; it was Weaver, who was not just an Orioles legend, but a major influence on Nats skipper Davey Johnson. He even took notice when Bryce Harper stole home against the Phillies.

“That was one of my plays we worked on all the time,” Weaver said, via MLB.com. “So Davey still remembers some of the stuff he learned here.”

Anyhow, that’s all worth a blog post. Above, it’s Weaver with Murray and Robinson. Below, it’s the new Weaver statue, along with the giveaway item from Saturday’s game. Those images are courtesy the Orioles.
