Gary Williams at George Washington-Loyola game

Gary Williams’s former team in College Park needed everything it had to escape Mount St. Mary’s Wednesday night at the Comcast Center.

Gary, though, was a few miles southwest at the time, watching Loyola beat GW from a baseline seat at the Smith Center. The teams, of course, are both coached by former Williams assistants: Jimmy Patsos at Loyola and Mike Lonergan at GW.

While the Terps are 5-3 and the Colonials 4-4, Patsos has Loyola cruising at 7-1, having won seven straight.

That’s almost as good as Jeff Jones’s squad at American, which has won eight straight after topping Hampton on Wednesday night. The last time the Eagles won eight straight non-conference games? Try 1978, under, you guessed it, Gary Williams.
