For D.C. sports writers, the anointing of a new Redskins starting quarterback is something like a Presidential inauguration for the political folks. And, like with an inauguration, there are striking images to herald the dawn of a new day. Here are some of them.
Above, please find the chalkboard sign outside BD’s Mongolian Barbeque in Bethesda. Skeptics, I suppose.
Washington Sports Club in Glover Park, on the other hand, finds something aspirational about the Beck Era. I used to work out at that club. Not all WSC branches have Comcast SportsNet, and that one did, which I appreciated. Via @MikeShwedick.
Then there were the newspapers. The Washington Times went huge, with BECK above the fold on A1.
The Post was more subtle on the front — using just a Jason Reid column without even mentioning Beck in the headline — but the Sports front was immense. This Beck is nearly as tall as Brandon Banks.
Express gets the most clever headline award, while devoting their cover space to the new leading man.
Well, ok, maybe the inside column from the Washington Examiner gets the most clever award. Next week’s headline? “Beck’s a Loser, Baby.”
And then there’s this new t-shirt, from my friend Matt Johnson. Sadness.
