Morning pixels: Desperate times for Capitals

The Capitals’ situation has become so bad that even the players are calling it desperate.

“We’re going to have to be a desperate hockey team, every single second of every game,” Karl Alzner said. “You see us get desperate in the third period a lot this year. It’s going to start right from the drop of the puck. And I just hope we can carry it out for the full 60 minutes.”

Five games of desperation is going to be tough to watch.

Braden Holtby gave up three goals before being pulled in the second period. Maybe it’s time to get someone to move his car.

BECAUSE YOU DON’T READ THE PAPER...
* Mark Rypien and 126 of his closest friends are suing the NFL for compensation for head injuries. Rypien claims he suffers from “various neurological conditions and symptoms related to multiple head traumas.” His whistling seems okay, though.

* Mike Shanahan met with Peyton Manning at Shanahan’s home in Denver a day after making the trade to presumably draft RG3.

* The Wizards aren’t blaming Wall for their struggles, which would be a ridiculous thing to do in the first place.

* Former Nationals president Stan Kasten is part of a group that has been approved to purchase the Dodgers for $2 million billion. The group also includes Magic Johnson.

BECAUSE YOU DON’T WATCH WOMEN’S SPORTS
The Maryland Women’s Basketball team suffered an 80-49 loss to No. 1 seeded Notre Dame, knocking them out of the NCAA tournament. The Lady Terps went into the game on a 10-game winning streak, but couldn’t rally past a double-figure first-half deficit.

TWEET OF THE NIGHT
National Post columnist Bruce Arthur on the Caps’ loss to Buffalo:

HIGHLIGHT OF THE NIGHT
The Caps goal was so surprising, even the TV people missed it.

PHOTO OF THE DAY
Sad Semin...

WHAT TO WATCH TODAY
The Caps and the Wizards are off but the McDonald’s All American Game is at 9:30 on ESPN. I’ll be watching last night’s Justified on my DVR, so keep your spoilers off my internets. All TV/Radio listings are here.

THING THAT WILL MAKE YOU LAUGH
I’m going to go ahead and give this one to the goose.

THING THAT WILL MAKE YOU CRY
Try to get through this without getting misty. I dare you.
