Morning pixels: Morgan compares RGIII to Manning, Brady and Vick

We’re in the final countdown to Robert Griffin III’s first actual real NFL game. People seem excited. Then again, the past few months have not exactly been a lesson in keeping expectations low.

Who’s to blame? Well, fans have been out of their minds with optimism since the team traded for the No. 2 overall pick. Before Griffin’s first training camp, Mike Shanahan said that “the NFL is not used to...a quarterback with his type of speed and his type of throwing ability, so I think we can do some things that people haven’t done.”

But Griffin’s teammates have also gotten involved in the hype train, perhaps none more so than Joshua Morgan in the latest edition of On Tap. (Yeah, I’m quoting from On Tap. Really.)

“I love him to death and can’t say enough great things about him,” Morgan said, which is fine.

“He came in so humble and so focused you don’t have any choice but to just rock with him,” Morgan said, which is also fine.

“He’s as fast as Michael Vick but he can make all the throws that Peyton Manning can make and he can make all the reads Tom Brady can make,” Morgan said, meaning before the kid has played a single real NFL down we’re now saying he has the best attributes of three of the best quarterbacks of this century.

That is not exactly keeping the expectations down.

BECAUSE YOU DON’T READ THE PAPER...
The Nats clinched a winning record. Go crazy.

In praise of Ross Detwiler. Massive, enthusiastic praise.

The Redskins are close to full strength.

QUOTE OF THE NIGHT
Werth on Strasburg. Strong:

“I have no reaction. This has gone on all season. People have been talking about this the whole year since his season begun. I don’t know why everyone was so surprised. This has been the protocol for two years now. I mean, it’s real easy for people not in the organization and not on this team to point fingers and call people names and say that this is what should happen and this is what shouldn’t happen. But the bottom line is, this is our guy on our team. And they’re doing what’s right for him and what’s right for our club long term. And I think it’s great.”

WHAT TO WATCH TODAY
The Nats host the Cubs at 7 on MASN. The Orioles are in Toronto at 7 on MASN2. All TV/Radio listings are here.

QUESTIONING BOZ
The newest angle of the Strasburg debate is asking, quite rightly, why you’re not allowed to even question the Nats’ decision without being branded a total jerky idiot. From Hardball Talk: ‘No matter how loudly you call the rest of us dumb and how rudely you ask us to kiss your press pass...simple odds favor the field over your dominant Washington Nationals and...any team, no matter how good, is much, much better off with Stephen Strasburg on it than off of it come playoff time.”

COOLEY GALLERY
He might not be a Redskin, but Chris Cooley’s Leesburg gallery will remain open.

GW HAS A NEW LOGO
George Washington has a new logo. Yay. The Hatchet reported that at the unveiling, the students’ “hesitation seemed to indicate a question rippling through the room: Is that it?”
