Morning pixels: Nick Young, JaVale McGee honored for being knuckleheads

The NBA Social Media Awards are a thing and they happened last night.

Among serious sounding categories such as the Social Slam Award and the Got Game Award was the LOL Award. It’s not surprising that Nick Young and JaVale McGee were two of the nominees. Both were honored for knucklehead plays during their time in Wizards uniforms this season.

JaVale won the category for his famous “hustle on defense, despite actually being on offense” play. Winning something called a LOL Award is a very JaVale thing to do.

Below is video of the award category, but I highly recommend you go watch the NBA.com version. That version features the awesome J.E. Skeets and Tas Melas from The Basketball Jones and those guys are just plain fun.

BECAUSE YOU DON’T READ THE PAPER...
* The Wizards traded Rashard Lewis and the 46th pick in the upcoming draft to New Orleans for Emeka Okafor and Trevor Ariza. “It doesn’t affect the draft at all,” Ernie Grunfeld said.

* Maryland finally revealed the official rendering of the new football field. The field will be green, not black as rumors suggested.

* Andrew Valmon, Maryland’s head track coach, will also coach the U.S. men’s track and field team in the upcoming Olympic Games in London.

TWEET OF THE NIGHT
Not really sure where “here” is...

QUOTE OF THE NIGHT
Stephen Strasburg on not being worried about a glove check:

“Why would it be dirty? I don’t cheat.”

HIGHLIGHT OF THE NIGHT
This is actually from the other night. Tampa requested that the Nats cover the ad over the batter’s eye. The ad, which changes to green during at-bats, malfunctioned. The Tampa request came before Peralta incident, for what it’s worth.

PHOTO OF THE DAY

The clowns in this photo from Tuesday night are the guys responsible for yesterday’s Nats-Orioles trash talk video.

WHAT TO WATCH TODAY
Tampa Bay at Nats, 7 p.m. on MASN. All TV/Radio listings are here.

PEOPLE ARE GOOD
A 68 year-old bus monitor, Karen Klein, gets bullied by the kids on the bus she watches until she cries. The incident was caught on video and uploaded to YouTube on Tuesday. Video goes viral and within 48 hours, the school district got involved, the monitor has received flowers, cards, support videos from Marines and donations totaling over $127,000 so that she can retire and go on vacation. From the worst to the best of humanity in 48 hours.
