Morning pixels: Redskins top Nats on bar televisions

A few people on Twitter last night commented that the drinking establishments they were patronizing had the Redskins on more televisions than they had the Nats. That’s a shame, because Jordan Zimmermann pitched one heck of a game last night.

If you were at one such place, the post-game quotes tell the tale of what you missed.

“He competes, he doesn’t care, he’s not afraid. He comes after you. He does what he does, and he doesn’t change. It’s not like he’s a plodder — more like a racehorse, a thoroughbred,” pitching coach Steve McCatty said of Zimmermann

“I love it. He runs that fastball in there at the upper 90s. The impressive part is, he goes right at you. He ain’t trying to trick you. He ain’t trying to nibble. Here it is. Hit it,” said catcher Kurt Suzuki

“He’s in attack mode coming out after guys. He’s a bear out there,” Davey Johnson commented.

“Sure, he belongs in the [Cy Young] conversation. I’d match his stuff up with everybody else,” said McCatty.

I get that we’re all excited for football and this was a much anticipated first RGIII performance. But, a pitching performance like that versus 14 Robert Griffin III plays followed by a whole lot of Rex Grossman? Might want to even out those TVs for now.

BECAUSE YOU DON’T READ THE PAPER...
* Dave Sheinin on RGIII: “For one drive at least, he looked like a star, perhaps even a savior.”

* Jason Reid breaks down some of last night’s game.

* The Nats beat the Astros again, this time with no drama.

* Usain Bolt: “I’m a legend.”

TWEET OF THE NIGHT

QUOTE OF THE NIGHT
RGIII on his first game as a Redskin:

“It was fun,” Griffin said. “ . . . The first one’s always the toughest. But to get it out of the way and have a successful outing and get a touchdown on that drive to cap off our day really set the tone for the year.”
