Morning pixels: Someone threw something at Bryce Harper

Bryce Harper knew he’d be the focus of attention Monday night in Philadelphia.

“I’m excited to get up there and play and hopefully they don’t throw any batteries or whatnot at me,” he said on Sunday.

Well, from what I could tell, there were no batteries, but there seemed to be a bit of whatnot. During the bottom of the ninth, as the awesomely named SMH-Rod was in the process of another meltdown, a hard flyball was hit at Harper. The field was pristine as he settled under the ball. Then bunches of white stuff fluttered down on the field behind Harper, landing harmlessly on the warning track.

Garbage? Cotton balls? The physical manifestation of Philadelphia’s crushed baseball dreams? I’m not sure. But someone definitely threw something at Bryce Harper.

BECAUSE YOU DON’T READ THE PAPER...
Tiger on his D.C. golf tournament: “Me as a player, I want to win the event. But I think me as a person — as a whole, as part of the foundation — it’s bigger than hitting a golf shot.”

Cricket is thriving in D.C.

TWEET OF THE NIGHT
Redskins kicker Graham Gano hears criticism even at the Home Depot.

QUOTE OF THE NIGHT
Davey Johnson on his closer situation:

“I’m going to sleep on it. But I’m looking at alternatives.”

PHOTO OF THE DAY

Eric Bickel from the Junkies gets all serious as he interviews Tiger. Ha ha.

WHAT TO WATCH TODAY
The Nats are at the Phillies at 7 on MASN. The Orioles host the Red Sox at 7 on MASN2. All TV/Radio listings are here.

OTHER STUFF
Ted Leonsis wants to throw out the first pitch at a Nats game.

Big League Stew weighs in on the Orioles Anthem “Oh!” arguing that they should keep it in Baltimore.

New to me: Clint from the Nats games has a Web site.

Suggested new Redskins uniforms from Uni-Watch.

CHEESE ISSUE
There was a bad earthquake in Italy. “The 6.0-magnitude quake north of Bologna that killed seven people and toppled centuries old buildings also caused enormous damage to the region’s world-renown cheese production. The Coldiretti Italian farm lobby said 400,000 wheels of Parmesan and Grana Padano cheese were damaged when the racks where they are aged collapsed.” Awful.
