Morning pixels: The rare D.C. sports trifecta

These are unusually good times for D.C. fans.

The Caps are in the playoffs and the Nats are leading the NL East. Even the Wizards put on a show Monday by taking down the Eastern Conference-leading Chicago Bulls.

Three games worth watching in one day. When was the last time that happened? Forget Strasmas. It’s all about D.C.

If you want to spread the love north, Baltimore is sitting on top of the AL East, which means that no matter where your sports allegiance lies, you should be enjoying life right now.

Traffic? Bah. The Nats’ pitchers are lighting it up.

Boss is coming down on you? Shake it off. The Caps have a legitimate shot at taking round one.

Kid got in trouble at school again? No problem. The Redskins are one week away from drafting one of the top two quarterbacks in the draft.

In-laws coming to visit? Send them to a museum because this Saturday presents another D.C. sports trifecta starting with the Nats at 1 p.m., the Caps at 3 p.m. and the Wizards at 7:30.

Start your engines.

BECAUSE YOU DON’T READ THE PAPER . . .
* The Nationals’ rotation throws so hard that catcher Wilson Ramos can’t feel his left index finger.

* The Redskins’ schedule features a Thanksgiving Day game against Dallas. Here’s hoping your family is full of Redskins fans. (Just for fun, try to look into the future with our Redskins schedule predictor.)

* Nicklas Backstrom is suspended for one game for a cross-check in Game 3. The first suspension of his career comes at a really inconvenient time.

TWEET OF THE NIGHT
Can you ever know too much about your pro athletes?

QUOTE OF THE NIGHT
Gio Gonzalez explains why he was caught smiling at the plate (evidenced in the photo of the day below):

“I was breaking into a grin because the dugout and the starting pitchers were out there laughing at me. You know how that goes. You see one of them crack a smile and you can’t do nothing but crack one back.”

HIGHLIGHT OF THE NIGHT
Football players. Working out. In April. GET PSYCHED!!

PHOTO OF THE DAY

Gio Gonzalez likes batting more than your average pitcher. Is he ever not smiling?
