Nick Young says Wizards were cursed; JaVale McGee says he’s not a loser

As always, the most important thing to remember is that I’d get more traffic for writing about the Wizards if the team were winning, so it’s all good by me. But I figured I should do one more post on the Nick and JaVale Show, including their thoughts on leaving D.C.

“The basketball gods, they sent me back [to Washington],” Young told an L.A. radio show after he was traded to the Clippers. “But that was just getting me ready to come back here, so I’m back now.”

“We watched the Wizards a few times early in the season,” one of the hosts noted. “It was interesting. A lot of crazy stuff happening out there on the court....Some crazy, crazy things out there on the court. What was going on in D.C. this year, Nick?”

“I don’t know, we had a curse on us for some reason,” Young replied. “We was on Not Top 10 every night, right? Every night it was something. Like, we couldn’t break the habit. But they drafted me, and I’m gonna miss some of them guys on the team.”

That’s as good a eulogy to this season as any: “We Was On Not Top 10 Every Night: the 2011-2012 Washington Wizards.”

But just because the team was losing doesn’t mean the players were losing.

“I’m ready to get on the floor, so I can show I can win and that I’m not a loser – just because I was on a losing team,” McGee told the Denver press, via the Nuggets Web site. “I definitely plan on showing that.”

Luckily for all involved, he won’t do that as a primary offensive threat, according to his new coach.

“JaVale is going to have to find shots in the rhythm of the offense,” George Karl said. “I don’t think he’s going to be a first-option offensive guy. I don’t think you’re going to run plays for him.”

As for his reaction to the move, McGee said he was napping at the time.

“It’s a part of the business,” he said. “I was like, ‘When do I leave?’ ”
