If you were awake and on the Internet Friday night, or listening to the radio, or walking down random streets in Washington, you probably realized pretty quickly that D.C. sports fans were excited about Robert Griffin III.
I don’t recall such Redskins-related elation since I started my blog, and that would include the 2007 playoff run. I was walking into the Watha T. Daniel library in Shaw on Saturday morning, and the two guys in front of me were discussing the trade with a fervor that doesn’t often grip D.C. sports fans.
Heck, The Post had to rip up the front page — like, A1 — to make sure the news would be properly presented to Saturday morning readers.
But all that is a very sterile and dry way of describing the feeling 48 hours later. To get something more in-the-moment, please have a listen to Tavon, a caller to 106.7 The Fan Saturday morning.
“YOU’VE GOT TO BELIEVE IN SOMETHING, AND RIGHT NOW, I BELIEVE IN THAT NATION WITH ALL MY HEART, MY SOUL AND MY PASSION,” he says, near the dramatic conclusion. “Y’ALL BETTER GET READY, BECAUSE I’M TELLING YOU SOMETHING, HEY, A CHANGE IS HERE, AND IT’S COMING, AND IT’S RGIII.”
Please do listen below.
