Here were the Redskins’ sacks-by-game before this week: 4, 3, 1, 7, 2, 4, 2, 2, 2, 4, 2. That’s an average of three a week.
In fact, the team entered Sunday’s game tied for first in the NFC in sacks, and tied for third in the NFL. In sacks-per-pass attempt, the Redskins were atop the NFC by themselves.
Sunday, they got none. And Rex Ryan seemed to like it. Here was his postgame locker-room speech, as captured by NYJets.com.
“I’m gonna tell you what, if I look at these stats and there was no sacks given up, we will have a Victory Monday. [Looks down, smiles.] No sacks. [Room cheers.] All right baby. Hey, great job by the offensive line.
“And hey, I’ll say this. In that situation, Shonn Greene, get down, victory. Do we understand? For real, now. I’ve seen guys get hurt in that last bit. We’ve got to get down, and that’s my fault. We’ve got to make sure we tell you, but a great win. Great win, guys.
“It wasn’t pretty. Defense, you got three turnovers. I told them, fourth-quarter sacks win, you got one, great job. O-line, way to pound their [bleeping] [bleep]. All right? Great job. Victory Monday. Let’s get the hell out of here.”
