Rickie Fowler at the Georgetown waterfront

The U.S. Open coming to town, and that means golf promotions are coming to town, and that means someone named Rickie and a constructed island hole inside a fountain at the Georgetown waterfront is coming to town.

On Saturday, June 11, 2011 PGA TOUR Rookie of the Year Rickie Fowler will attempt a shot with no sight line into a constructed island hole inside a fountain at the Georgetown Waterfront (with the Potomac River as a backdrop and winds swirling). It will be a test of precise shot making, while sharpening Fowler’s mental focus as he readies to play Congressional and the U.S. Open.

The release says Fowler is aiming for “a blind hole-in-one between two buildings, around one fountain hazard and into an island green placed in another fountain — all amongst hundreds of spectators.”

The shot will have to go through a narrow passage and between “five-story buildings that house some of the most prestigious lawyers and lobbyists in Washington.” Truly a harrowing shot. Fowler wrote that this was “gonna be crazy!!”
