Rob Carlin to host Comcast SportsNet’s Capitals Postgame Live

Rob Carlin, who previously hosted New York Islanders’ pre- and post-game shows on MSG and MSG Plus, will join Comcast SportsNet as the host of Capitals programming during home games, the network will announce on Tuesday.

Carlin, a University of Maryland graduate who spent several years as the sports director at WMAR in Baltimore, will replace Russ Thaler as the host of Capitals Central and Capitals Postgame Live for home games. Thaler left CSN in August to host a weekly national show on Versus. Like Thaler, Carlin will also serve as an anchor and reporter for CSN, and will be in studio with Alan May for Saturday’s home opener.

He was born and raised on Long Island, and grew up an Islanders fan in the ‘80s, which might merit a crack or two from May this season. He also did Islanders “sideline reporting” for MSG.

Al Koken will continue to host the studio programming during Caps road games.

Incidentally, Newsday reported his move to the Capitals broadcast team last month, so maybe everyone in the world already knows this, but I never saw it.
