Small student crowd at Maryland-Miami game

Almost exactly a year ago, Gary Williams, Scott Van Pelt and others reacted with very public disappointment when the Maryland student section was nearly empty for a late-season ACC home game.

New year, new coach, new opponent, similar crowd. Mark Turgeon suggested that Tuesday night’s win over Miami was among the Terps’ best of the season, but there weren’t many students there to see it. The image above comes from The Washington Times’s Patrick Stevens late in the second half. The image below comes from Stevens midway through the first half.

“I am officially calling out the Maryland students. That was a pitiful performance tonight,” Brendan Darr wrote.

“It doesn’t count as three wins, but man it sure feels like it tonight,” Turgeon said, which would have made the average attendance even worse.
