Steve McCatty coaching Steve Urkel

So Jaleel White, aka Steve Urkel from “Family Matters,” threw out the first pitch at the Nats game on Saturday.

That fact alone was enough for blog items at Nats Enquirer and Deadspin. But there’s more!

Because YouTube member lfahome, one of my favorite Nats fans, somehow scored this incredible video of Nats pitching coach Steve McCatty coaching up White in the ‘pen before the game. And this is some legit, high-level, best-staff-in-the-majors coaching, too. They weren’t screwing around.

And it gets weirder. Because why was White even at the game?

“I was invited by Nats ownership,” he told MLB.com. “They came and supported me when I was on ‘Dancing With the Stars.’ I thought that was really nice of Alan [Gottlieb]. He said, ‘Look, if you’re in D.C., stop by.’ I was in New York, visiting a friend, I said, ‘Let’s go on down.’”

And so, White’s favorite team is?

“I don’t really have a team, but the Nats are REALLY twisting my arm for me to make them my team,” he said. “I mean, it’s such a beautiful ballpark. I wouldn’t see any reason why not.”

Hey, the mascot’s name is Screech; it only figures that they’d go after Urkel, too.

Also, the MLB.com employee asked White for an Urkel impersonation.

“You’re cute; not that cute,” he replied.
