* The Terps women move on to the Sweet 16, with Kristi Tolliver and Marissa Coleman finishing up 65-3 at the Comcast Center. That's ok.
* Meantime, the three next-best ACC teams--first-seeded Duke, third-seeded UNC and third-seeded Florida State--all bowed out in the second round. All three teams were ranked in the AP's Top 12. If you're looking for cosmic inter-ACC satisfaction to redeem the results from some other winter sport, this might help.
* The standard critique of the women's tourney is that it's all chalk. This year's Sweet 16 includes four upsets (by seed), and only three top seeds. The men have had two upsets (by seed), and all four top seeds.
* And, most absurdly, the Terps women's motto "Eat Kids" earned an entire segment on Rome Is Burning. In case it wasn't clear, all their quotes were sort of in the spirit of the Bog. They're not really vicious or deranged or anything. Joking. But somehow Jim Rome got a hold of this, and, well....Also, thanks for the shout-out, Rome. Rack me. Etc.
(Is it good or bad that Jim Rome is talking about Maryland basketball after the first round? I don't know the answer.)
