The 49ers practiced at the Marine Barracks

My first Washington address was 908 G Street, SE, about two blocks from the Marine Barracks on Capitol Hill. I lived there for about a year. No NFL teams ever practiced in my neighborhood, as far as I know.

But this year, an NFL team showed up. That would be Jim Harbaugh’s 49ers, who held their walkthrough on the Hill the day before beating up the Redskins. From the Sac Bee:

The 49ers, who are staying in Arlington, Va., before Sunday’s game against the Washington Redskins, were bused across the Potomac River [Saturday] and practiced at the Marine Barracks in Southeast Washington, D.C....
While the 49ers went over their game plan for the Redskins, a few Marines watched from their barracks. At the end of practice, coach Jim Harbaugh gathered his team together, and in unison, the players yelled “Semper Fi!” in honor of their hosts.

(Although Peter King wrote that the Marines were actually “lining the field and watching.”)

The Bee and others reported that the Niners then went to Arlington National Cemetery for a brief tour before returning to their Pentagon City hotel. The above photo, which comes from the Niners PR staff, shows team members at The Tomb of the Unknowns.
