(By Greg Fiume.)
The University of Maryland held its first-ever “Terp Awards” event at the Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center on Tuesday night. It was a formal affair, filled with all sorts of award presentations, including men’s athlete of the year (Joe Cummings), women’s athlete of the year (Alyssa Thomas), team of the year (Field Hockey), men’s coach of the year (Kerry McCoy), women’s coach of the year (Brenda Frese and Missy Meharg), and Terp Tweeter of the year (A.J. Francis). (Not really.)
Anyhow, you can read more about the Terp Awards here, and see a photo gallery here, but I will highlight the top four Bog-worthy nuggets:
* The stage was brightened by a large gold Oscar-like Testudo, and Chick Hernandez in a tux.
* Redskins cornerback Josh Wilson presented several awards.
* The aforementioned A.J. Francis performed a rap number while in football jersey, along with Sequoia Austin of the women’s basketball team.
* There was a flash mob.
Gotta love awards ceremonies.
