UDC’s Nigel Munson with a monster dunk

Two weeks back, UDC’s VP of Public Affairs Alan Etter sent out an e-mail about a “monumental day” for the school’s basketball programs. Both the men’s and women’s teams were ranked in last week’s top 25 Division II polls, the first time that had happened since 1983, Etter told me.

And while that’s a pretty cool note, it goes even better accompanied by a video of the Firebirds’s Nigel Munson’s dunk from Wednesday night’s win over Molloy.

Munson, you’ll recall, starred at DeMatha before attending and then leaving Virginia Tech. Wednesday was his final home game at UDC; he responded with 12 assists in the first half (a school and conference record) and 16 in the game, to go along with 12 points and 6 rebounds.

The UDC men are now ranked No. 18 in Division II, while the women are ranked 23rd.
