What You Need to Know

In a game that might have Selection Sunday implications, Local No. 1 Virginia Tech overtimes Local No. 2 Maryland, which is off to its worst ACC start since '92-'93. Tech relies on its experienced guards and its student section, which received free admission in a move that was "pure brilliance." D.J. Strawberry says the Terps have to move on, and the team's road record lately has been atrocious.

Local No. 6 Virginia improves to 10-1 at home thanks to 40 from J.R. Reynolds, who has his best

performance "by far" as a Cav, moving closer to "legend" status. (He made some 3's that were really 4's and earned five post-game calls from his mom.) Local No. 11 Navy loses at Army, and among the unranked masses, Loyola wins at Rider to move into sole possession of first in the MAAC, Jon Pease might have played his best game in Towson's weekend win, UMBC loses at BU, and Norfolk State will play Del State on TV tonight. Plus the Terps women destroy another ACC team and GW wins again.

In Wizland, Songaila could be cleared to practice within two weeks, A.D. is adjusting to decreased minutes, the Wiz are USA Today's team of the week and Gilbert makes the cover of Sexy DC, Tom Knott says all this best-record-in-the-East talk is heady stuff, and let's start the buzz for Wiz-Suns tomorrow night. And if you missed 'em here's last week's AP story on whether Gilbert should be in the MVP conversation (Marc Stein says no), here's Doc Rivers's endorsement of Tough Juice in '07, and here's Scoop Jackson on Gilbert and touching the sky.

Ovechkin could be a Hart Trophy candidate, Lindy Ruff plans to keep Ovechkin and Crosby on the same all-star line and Daniel Briere remains excited about playing with them. And the Potomac Nats are still trying to get a new stadium, an issue that will be discussed at tomorrow's Board of County Supervisors meeting.
