White House Press Secretary talks Obama and Nats

(Official White House photo by Pete Souza, via here.)
Earlier this month, Barack Obama told a Nevada TV station that the Nats were his second-favorite team.

This week, the D.C. nine actually made it into a White House briefing.

This all came when a reporter asked Press Secretary Jay Carney about the baseball bat Obama is holding in this official White House photo, which shows him talking on the phone with talks on the phone with Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan of Turkey.

“He had a baseball bat in his hand,” the reporter noted. “Do you know did he get that from a Major League player, or is there some sort of back story about the foreign policy approach or — (laughter) — he was holding a baseball bat.”

“He’s a baseball fan,” Carney replied. “What can I tell you. As I think he said, White Sox but also watching the remarkable Washington Nationals.”

Turns out this was an an autographed bat given to Obama by Hank Aaron, for the record.
