Darrel Young says Trent Williams was ‘dominating’ the Giants

Robert Griffin III was sacked three times on Sunday — once each by Justin Tuck, Osi Umenyiora and Jason Pierre-Paul. But the Giants’ all-everything defensive line did not halt the Redskins’ high-flying offense.

And fullback Darrel Young suggested that left tackle Trent Williams deserves much of the credit.

“People look at Trent — and you might say why is he a captain after the situation that happened last year — but Trent’s the heart and soul of that offensive line,” Young said Monday on 106.7 The Fan’s LaVar and Dukes show. “And you look at what he did. I mean, opening up the game vs. Pierre-Paul, he was just dominating him.

“And that’s what he’s been doing,” Young continued. “He’s a Pro Bowl player, in my eyes. It’s just about him getting in there and actually having the credentials under his name. But I have no doubt in my mind that Trent’s gonna pass block anyone just as good as [anyone] you could play, like a Jake Long or something like that. I think he’s a heck of a player. He’s got an upside, this is his third year, and he’s only gonna get better from here.”

Young also talked about the impact Robert Griffin III has had on this offense.

“You just go back to everything that Robert Griffin brings to the table,” the fullback said. “I mean, it’s 11-on-11 now, it’s not 10-on-11. Any time he’s continuing his fake after he hands the ball to Alfred, someone has to respect him. Because the threat of him running or whatever else, that just opens up the door for a lot of other things for us.”
