The Redskins will be wearing their throwback uniforms this weekend, and the helmets featuring a faux leather design was easily a favorite in the locker room.
“These helmets are sweet, said Darrel Young, admiring the head gear hanging in his locker. “Especially with the black face mask.”
The Redskins’ throwbacks are a modern interpretation, rather than the dizzying replicas the Steelers wore Sunday. When I asked players about the Pittsburgh unis, the most common response was laughter. Stephen Bowen was a little more diplomatic.
“I wasn’t really a fan of them,” he said. “But that’s what they wore back in the day so they had to stay true to that.”
As for Young, he said he’s going to save every bit of his uniform that the team will let him.
“How many times are you going to play in an 80th anniversary game?” he said. “There’s never going be another one. I’m living the dream.”
