Morning Pixels: A fitting Sean Taylor tribute

November 8, 2012

The other day, Dan mentioned that the team is offering a look at the late Sean Taylor’s locker to sweeten the deal on a photo promotion. Obviously, that didn’t sit well with some of you. But here’s a tribute that’s a little more fitting.

Miami star freshman running back Duke Johnson walked onto the field against Florida wearing a sweatshirt he had made for the occasion. From the SunSentinel:

He entered the stadium in wearing a custom-made tribute to his hero — UM legend Sean Taylor. The new black hooded sweat shirt featured a portrait of the former Hurricane, who was murdered five years ago this month in a botched robbery. Beneath it, heavy red block lettering spells out Johnson’s mission statement.

“When it’s all you have,” the jacket reads, “it’s no longer a game.”

Johnson later explained the quote.

“People from the outside looking in think it’s just football — it’s just a sport and this and that,” Johnson told the SunSentinel. “But when it’s all you basically have, there’s more to it than that. When it’s the only way to feed your family, it’s more than just a game.”

The full story is here and worth the read. Thanks to @JimMWeber for the heads up.

QUOTE OF THE NIGHT

United coach Ben Olsen on the decision to postpone last night’s match:

“I’m baffled. It wouldn’t have been a pretty game, that’s for sure. It would’ve made the game sloppy, but this is what it is. The game has got to go on at some point.”
