Morning Pixels: New York media on RGIII

December 4, 2012

In what’s becoming something of a tradition for me, I woke up on Tuesday morning and immediately went to read the stories by people who cover the team RGIII just beat.

In this case, that meant the New York media. And people seemed impressed.

New York Post: “The Kid had FedEx Field rocking like it was RFK Stadium in the glory days last night. It had been five long, frustrating years since Washington last played a truly meaningful December home game, but Robert Griffin III made it worth the wait in a 17-16 victory over the Giants that had the capacity crowd of 80,246 singing “Hail to the Redskins” at the top of their lungs on the way out.”

Mike Vaccaro: “This is the fun part, after all, the nothing-to-lose part, the part Pat Riley once called the ‘innocent climb,’ in which low expectations and a low profile combine for splendid reward.”

New York Daily News headline: “Unbe-THREE-vable! Redskins rookie QB too much for Giants this time around, 17-16.”

New York Times: “[Manning's] counterpart, Griffin, was more buoyant, bouncing around the field in his usual style. For all the attention Manning receives in New York, even his scrutiny cannot compare to the phenomenon that Griffin has become in Washington. Griffin jerseys were ubiquitous in the crowd Monday night — as always — and fans chanted Griffin’s nickname, RG3, before the game even began.”

Steve Serby: “The Giants wanted this one, wanted to show the super quarterback that he is unable to leap tall Supermen in a single bound, even if he is faster than a speeding bullet. That maybe one day his time will come, but that day is not here. A prince not yet fit to be king. And RG3 crowned them when it mattered.”

That seems….positive?

BECAUSE YOU DON’T READ THE PAPER

* Boz on the Skins: “Griffin has the aura of victory. That inspires. That elevates. And, as the Redskins rebuild their franchise, that changes every aspect of their future.”

* Reid on the Skins: “Although no one knows where this once-improbable run will end, Griffin is determined to keep it going all the way to the postseason.”

* Sheinin on the Skins: “It was a victory that completed the Redskins’ return to relevance.”

* Kilgore on Mike Rizzo: “He does not want his fifth starter to be a Fifth Starter.

QUOTE OF THE NIGHT

Justin Tuck, on trying to stop the Skins’ offense:

“You can play well against them. We could’ve played better, but as far as shutting them down…I don’t know if it’s possible with a dynamic quarterback like him, who can kill you running and throwing. Pretty much, you’ve got to get lucky.”

RGIII’S DROP KICK

Before Monday Night Football began, Robert Griffin III worked on his drop-kicking technique. Of course, he appeared to be pretty good at it. GIFs here and here.
