Morning Pixels: RGIII’s dad responds to Rob Parker

December 14, 2012

Yesterday’s comments by Rob Parker on Robert Griffin III’s level of blackness set off a firestorm of criticism for both Parker and ESPN, forcing network spokesman Mike Soltys to tweet this statement last night:

It’s unlikely we’ll hear RGIII address this issue directly, but his father briefly spoke about it with USA Today

“He needs to define what ‘one of us’ is. That guy needs to define that,” he said. “I wouldn’t say it’s racism. I would just say some people put things out there about people so they can stir things up.

“Robert is in really good shape on who he is, where he needs to get to in order to seek the goals he has in life … so I don’t take offense.”

Teammate Lorenzo Alexander also voiced his support of Griffin.

Griffin has been reluctant to discuss things like politics and race, and has only recently begun to talk about being identified as a black quarterback. After this, I’d be surprised if he continues to entertain such questions.

This is why we can’t have nice things.

* Mike Wise tells Kobe it could be worse. “But for just one night, we provide solace, comfort, a rejuvenation spa — Verizon Center, where even the Bobcats have found inner peace and self-esteem. You can’t feel ancient and brittle here. We make you young again, we are the NBA’s answer to Botox.”

* Jason Reid approves of Shanahan’s moves this season.

TWEET OF THE NIGHT

QUOTE OF THE NIGHT

Barry Cofield with some positive pixels for the Redskins defense:

“I’ve definitely been on some defenses that were statistically better, really talented defenses, but we’d come out and get punched in the mouth early and we never responded. The ability to be able to weather that storm and bounce back in the second half is very important. And with the offense we’ve got, the talent we’ve got, the quick-strike ability we have, we feel like if we can stay in the game, create a turnover late, we’re never out of it. And it’s been true.”

Bryce Harper is one of the candidates to grace the cover of MLB 13 The Show. “When you’re younger, you always dream of being in a video game, or being on the cover,” Harper said via Kotaku. “Winning a World Series would be the top-notch goal, but off the field, this is something very cool.” They haven’t announced his competition yet, but Harper tweeted a few pics from his photoshoot.
