After the Nats finished first in the division last season, Phillies shortstop Jimmy Rollins had this to say about how his team compares to Washington’s:
“That’s great for them. With us being healthy, they’re still in second place. But we weren’t.”
Well, Jayson Werth sees your statement, and raises.
“I would never find Jimmy Rollins disrespectful,” Werth told Philly.com. “I respect him too much. But if we were healthy all year, we might have won 120 games. But we’ll have a chance to find out this year.”
Well, 120 wins would make the Nats the best team in baseball history. Slightly aggressive, but I like where your head’s at.
“I think we’re better on paper, but talk is cheap, and we’re a long way from the finish line,” Werth continued, dialing it back a bit. “I feel good about our team. I feel like we’re going to be tough, but we’re not flying under the radar this year. We have a big X on our back. The Phillies do, too.”
BECAUSE YOU DON’T READ THE PAPER
* The Nats have enviable depth.
* The Wizards seem pretty chill as the trade deadline approaches.
* A great profile on Hokies senior Erick Green.
* Feinstein says it’s time for college sports to start over.

“I love having them, but I want to see them get 600 at-bats, get to play every day. Selfishly, I’d love to have them here the next couple years, being our bench guys, our role guys. They’re almost too good for that.”
