Former Georgetown forward Michael Graham was in the news recently, as everyone recapped the history of the Hoyas’ rivalry with Syracuse. For example, here’s longtime Georgetown PR guy Bill Shapland, talking about the 1984 Big East title game in The Post’s oral history:
“If you ask a Syracuse fan about this game, he will refer to ‘Graham throwing a punch.’ If you ask a Georgetown fan, he will tell you to look at the Daily News photo of Patrick [Ewing] being punched in the groin by Pearl Washington.”
And so on. Now Graham is in the news again, for a slightly different reason.
The press release says Graham resisted talking about basketball at his press conference, now works in “retail sales management,” and hasn’t slept well over the past two weeks, since earning his prize.
Graham bought his ticket at a Shell station on South Dakota Avenue, NE, just off New York Avenue, a station I’ve visited many times en route to FedEx Field. Graham is the lottery’s first million-dollar winner of the year.
BECAUSE YOU DON’T READ THE PAPER
* After languishing at the bottom of the conference standings for weeks, the Caps are now leading the Southeast Division. “From turd to third,” as one wag put it.
* The Nats are baseball’s only unbeaten team and are, of course, leading the NL East. Everyone’s leading a division nowadays.
* Dave Sheinin with a terrific look back at the 1978 world champion Bullets.
