During a recent game, Brooks Laich got hit by a puck in a particularly sensitive area, forcing him to leave the game for a bit. He discussed the injury with the Junkies on 106.7 on Wednesday.

“Oh, man. And then some,” he replied, when asked if he got hit in the aforementioned area. “I took a shot…the puck came right…I was close to the guy, and it came right underneath the can and caught the low-hanging fruit directly. A sniper shot direct to ‘em. The left side, it was just miserable. It just dropped me like a sack of hammers, man.”

The shot caused Laich to go down, and stay down.

“I was crawling off the ice,” he continued. “I couldn’t get up and I crawled off and our athletic trainer, our head medical trainer, Greg Smith, asked me how I was doing. I was like, ‘Man, I’m in so much pain.’ And he goes, ‘Well, you may have cracked it in half.’ I was like, ‘Seriously, that can happen?’ And he said, ‘Yeah. You might have to go to the back to check it out. If you’re experiencing that much pain, that can happen.’ I said, ‘Oh, man.’ So I had to go to the back to make sure things were okay.”

And just how do you check to make things are okay?

“Just the ol’ hand test. There was a couple doctors there, and another medical trainer, and I was like, ‘Hey, boys. Don’t worry, I got this one.’ If it was really really bad…like, I knew something wasn’t wrong. It was just a stinger, I just got hit there. But if there was something really wrong I would have left it up to them.”
