Morning Pixels: VEEP in the presidents race

Since I wrote about the prospect of the Julia Louis-Dreyfus character running in the Nats presidents race, I suppose journalistic duty requires me to write about the result.

She lost.

Near as I can tell, she fell behind early, gained ground when an actual president fell down, embarked on a mad dash toward a sprinting George Washington, but fell short at the tape.

Still, that’s not important. The important part is that the season premiere of VEEP is Sunday at 10 p.m. on HBO. And tune in to the presidents race next week, when David Palmer, Francis Underwood and Josiah Bartlet run a steeplechase on the warning track.

BECAUSE YOU DON’T READ THE PAPER
* The Capitals will never lose again and Alex Ovechkin will score in every game.

* The Nats look like they might kind of be struggling and still manage to win.

* Mike Wise trolls about trolling trolly the trolls LeBron trolls Heat trollish to troll and so on.

MORE FOOD BY NATS PARK
Yet another new option near Nats Park has opened. It’s the Park Tavern at 2nd and M Southeast, and because it’s a bar in D.C., it appears to have a strong beer selection. There will eventually be craft beer running in the streets by the Navy Yard.

QUOTE OF THE NIGHT
Adam LaRoche, on Denard Span’s performance thus far:

“That’s something we’ve been missing. Not necessarily a guy that sees pitches, because Jayson sees more pitches than anybody in the league. But a guy who’s constantly on base. We’ve got a small taste of it here. I think over the course of a year, you’re going to see the difference that can make.”

U STREET TACO GLOSSARY
City Paper details the many potential variations on the U Street Taco, which is a half-smoke wrapped in a jumbo slice. A Nats Park Taco is “a Shake Shack burger wrapped in a Ben’s Chili Bowl chili half-smoke,” which is highly disrespectful to Papa John’s, doncha know.

WHAT TO WATCH TODAY
The Nats host the White Sox at 7 on MASN2. The Wizards host the Heat at 7 on Comcast SportsNet. The Caps don’t play, but will likely win anyhow.. All TV and radio listings are here.
