1) Start your playoff career with two completely incongruous plays: a 75-foot pass of perfection leading to the game-winning goal, and a bit of defensive selfishness involving stopping a puck with your face.
2) After the latter incident, go to the bench, roll your eyes, allow yourself to be checked out, and then continue to play.
“I’m pretty fragile, I cut pretty easy, so just made sure I wasn’t leakin’ too bad,” Oleksy said, via the New York Times. “And fortunately there wasn’t more damage then there was.”
3) And then, after the game and after your media obligations are finished, head across the street to Redline, still wearing your game-day suit, and hang out and take pictures with fans.
“Was there with his brother,” wrote Reader Matthew, who also sent along this photo. “Extremely friendly and grateful. I left before him.”
So anyhow, this is just one method to possibly ingratiate yourself a little bit with the hometown fans.
AUCTION ITEM OF THE DAY
UMPS CARE — the official charity of MLB umps — is holding its annual online sports auction, with proceeds going to the charity’s work with kids. There are several Nats-related items, including a package with tickets and field passes for BP, and a Bryce Harper signed bat. But this is probably the best Nats-related item: “a collection of five baseballs, each one signed by one of the Nats’ starting pitchers, and a beautiful display case to show them off.”
ANNOUNCER MIDRIFF OF THE NIGHT
It’s one thing when Ian Desmond joins Rafael Soriano in untucking. It’s another thing entirely when F.P. Santangelo jumps on board, showing his belly button to the world. Add tucked-in athletic undershirts to the MASN broadcast-booth dress code.
TWEET OF THE NIGHT
There’s not much sweeter than all the athletic teams in town being friends. Electronically, at least.
Good night for Washington teams to earn big, 3-1 victories. Eh, @washcaps?
