Some of the Redskins players were on hand at Brian Orakpo’s golf tournament Monday to show support for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (more on that in a bit). Media members were able to chat with players before the 11 a.m. shotgun start, and most beat reporters had plans to head home, or to a newsroom or to whatever nearby coffee shop they planned on working from. But at about 10 a.m., word came down that a certain rehabbing quarterback might possibly make an appearance, dashing everyone’s hopes of leaving.
The rumor was that Robert Griffin III wouldn’t be speaking to the media, but the beat reporters all stuck around for a few more hours on the off-chance that they could sling some questions at him as he walked the 10 feet from his car to a waiting golf cart. No such luck. RGIII showed up around 2 p.m., hopped into a cart and waved to reporters as he rode away to a chorus of “Just give us 30 seconds!”
RGIII then spent some time on the golf course, presumably to shake some hands, kiss some babies and do a few jumping jacks.
Here is 10 seconds of RGIII. It was special.
