Dan Snyder: ‘We’ll never change the name’

May 10, 2013

The Redskins have been passively responding to those who find the team’s name offensive. Articles and videos on the team site have cited high schools that use the name, an Associated Press poll that showed support for the name have been used as PR tools and team representatives have encouraged fans not to vote for politicians who oppose it. But the team’s owner has largely stayed mum on the issue, until now.

“We will never change the name of the team,” Dan Snyder told USA Today. “As a lifelong Redskins fan, and I think that the Redskins fans understand the great tradition and what it’s all about and what it means, so we feel pretty fortunate to be just working on next season.”

“We’ll never change the name,” he continued. “It’s that simple. NEVER — you can use caps.”

TWEET OF THE NIGHT

QUOTE OF THE NIGHT
Ryan Zimmerman, on the Nats turning it around:

“Everyone in this room will tell you that we didn’t play great baseball at the beginning of the season. Defensively we were sloppy, offensively we were very inconsistent. Even the pitchers weren’t that great at the beginning. But you’re going to go through things like that in a season and when it happens at the beginning obviously it’s a little more glaring than if it were to happen in July or August. It’s nice to play better. We’ve just got to keep doing what we’ve been doing lately.”
