There’s an assist in there, of course, for Comcast SportsNet’s Chick Hernandez, who asked Woods what advice he’d give to Robert Griffin III as he rehabs his knee.
“For me, did I have to be explosive when I came back? Yes, but only to a certain extent,” Woods began. “I could still hit the ball 30 yards shorter and still win golf tournaments. For him, losing a half a step is a big deal. And no one’s gonna be hitting me out there on the golf course. That would be fun, though. It’d be aggressive. We used to do that in high school — full-contact golf — but that’s a different story….
“I think what Robert’s going through, and we saw what Adrian [Peterson] went through and the year that he came back and had, and even Tom Brady. Those were lead leg injuries, too, at least for Tom. Robert, being a trail leg, hopefully he has the power back and explosiveness so he can push off and throw that ball.”
That’s not exactly advice. But still, it’s Tiger Woods talking about RGIII.
UNEXPECTED RGIII COLUMN OF THE DAY
“RG3 has chance to head off potential image problem” was not a headline I expected to read in the Washington Times.
Nor did I expect to read this passage by my friend Rich Campbell: “The picture Griffin posted with the thank-you message was a bad look. He posed lying on a pile of empty boxes, shrugging and smirking—a portrayal of a multimillionaire indulging in materialism, disconnected with the proletariat that worship him….This first clash between Griffin and his public is the strongest evidence of an issue that has been simmering this offseason, one that some in the Redskins organization acknowledge: the seeds of an RG3 perception problem have sprouted.”
I do not believe there is an RGIII perception problem myself, but maybe I’m too busy perceiving page views. I also do not believe Griffin has made a single incorrect step during this wedding registry silliness.
HORRIBLE RGIII STAT OF THE DAY
The five most-clicked-on D.C. Sports Bog links on Monday were ALL about Robert Griffin III’s wedding. That’s the kind of stat that makes it hard to roll out of bed in the morning. At least I currently have plans for just one RGIII wedding item on Tuesday.
PHOTO OF THE DAY
Angela Rypien, perhaps angling for Griffin’s job, posted a photo of herself with Redskins center Will Montgomery.
BAD NATITUDE OF THE DAY
Via NBC Washington, “A man in his early 30s donning a Washington Nationals baseball hat is wanted for robbing a Northeast bank Monday afternoon.”
DOUBLY BAD NATITUDE OF THE DAY
Leads you probably don’t expect to read during World Series Or Bust seasons: “The disarray in the Nationals’ bullpen reached a bizarre and self-inflicted new height Monday night. After the Nationals’ 8-0 loss to the Giants, Manager Davey Johnson revealed that set-up man Ryan Mattheus had broken his right hand Sunday when he punched his locker after a dreadful performance, landing him on the disabled list and leaving the Nationals scrambling for fresh arms.”
VIDEO OF THE DAY
Joseph White of the AP asked a long question to Woods on Monday. Woods provided a one-word reply, and plenty of chuckles and guffaws.
REDSKINS SNACKS OF THE DAY
Since Alfred Morris is evidently fond of eating PB&J without the bread, Michael Katz (a former colleague) explored what other snacks might intrigue the second-year back. Pie filling, for example.
WHAT TO WATCH TODAY
The Nats are in San Francisco at 10:15 on MASN2. I’m still tired. So tired. Also, the Wizards will go for a draft lottery miracle at 8:30 on ESPN. All TV and radio listings are here.
