Jayson Werth blamed for Phillie Phanatic breakdown

June 18, 2013

Before last night’s Nats game in Philadelphia, The Phillie Phanatic ran into some trouble on his trademark ATV when it broke down on him, forcing the grounds crew to carry it off the field. Embarrassing.

Few found it more amusing than Jayson Werth, who has an adversarial history with the furry green mascot. Last season, Werth stole the keys to the Phanatic’s ride during warmups, and last night’s situation caused some to speculate that the Nats outfielder had something to do with the engine trouble.

Here’s video of the unfortunate breakdown. I don’t know what he could have done to it, but Werth certainly looks amused by the situation.
