When Fred Davis was set to become a free agent this past offseason, he tested the NFL waters and found them to be quite cold.
“Teams wanted to get me for cheap,” he told ESPN. “The teams I had options to see, when they first told me the numbers they were thinking about, I was, like, ‘No way I’m going to entertain them.’”
It’s not surprising, considering recent additions to his resume include a suspension and an Achilles rupture
“I think about it like that, but then I don’t because the stuff that happened, happened,” Davis continued. “Now the only way to be positive is to know I can change the circumstances by playing good football. It’s not like I’m old enough to where I can’t play anymore. I still have a lot of years left.”
Davis signed a one-year deal with the Redskins in March, and has plans to make those teams regret not making a more serious offer.
“I feel like the underdog,” Davis said. “The third time is the charm. This is going to be a good year for me. I’m physically and mentally ready and it’s my fourth year in this offense, so I’m ready.”
“Make sure every team feels it when I play them,” he said.

QUOTE OF THE NIGHT
Davey Johnson, on pennants and dams and holes.
“We were a young team last year, and we were in a pennant race, and we handled it all right. But we still aren’t out of it. We’re just not handling things as individuals. We have a few cracks in the dam. I need to plug ’em. I’m running out of fingers.”

PROFILE OF THE DAY
This piece on Chief Zee, by Mike Wise, is fascinating and sad.
Reliable Source has the details on John Wall’s new mansion. No mention of grottoes or stripper poles.
Sports on Earth assigned a beer to each NFL team, giving the Redskins Mike’s Hard Lemonade. Better or worse than the Jets being assigned Strawberry Lime-o-rita?
